We collect the information needed to review and publish volunteer listings, communicate with submitters, and protect our forms. We do not currently use advertising trackers or sell personal information.
Information we collect
Information you submit
When an organization or community representative submits an opportunity, we may collect the organization name, contact person’s name, email address, optional phone number, website, application link, and the details of the volunteer opportunity.
Opportunity details may include the title, description, location, city or cities served, category, schedule, commitment, dates, participation format, and minimum age.
Technical and security information
Our hosting and security services may process technical information such as an IP address, browser or device information, request timing, and security signals. We use Cloudflare Turnstile on submission forms to distinguish people from automated abuse. Turnstile processes information needed to perform that security check.
Communications
We keep the information contained in messages you send to us and transactional messages related to a submission, such as confirmation, approval, rejection, or follow-up emails.
How we use information
We use information to:
- review, verify, publish, update, and administer opportunity listings;
- communicate with the person or organization that submitted a listing;
- operate, maintain, secure, and improve Community Volunteer Services;
- detect spam, fraud, misuse, and other harmful activity;
- respond to questions, correction requests, and legal obligations; and
- create non-identifying summaries about site activity and directory coverage.
We do not sell personal information. We do not use submission contact information for unrelated advertising.
What becomes public
Community Volunteer Services is a public directory. If a submission is approved, information meant to describe the opportunity—such as the organization name, title, description, location, schedule, website, application link, and cities served—may appear publicly and may be indexed by search engines.
Administrative contact details are used to review and manage the listing. A contact email is not intended for public display unless the organization has asked for or allowed it to be shown with the opportunity.
Before submitting: do not place private, sensitive, or confidential information inside a title, description, address, or other field intended to be published.
Service providers
We use service providers to run Community Volunteer Services. They may process information only as needed to provide their services to us:
- Cloudflare provides hosting, database, network security, and Turnstile form protection.
- Resend delivers transactional email related to opportunity submissions and administration.
These providers maintain their own policies, including the Cloudflare Privacy Policy and Resend Privacy Policy.
We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect rights or safety, or in connection with a legitimate organizational change involving Community Volunteer Services.
Retention and security
We keep information for as long as reasonably necessary to operate the directory, maintain submission records, resolve disputes, prevent abuse, and meet legal obligations. Retention may vary depending on the type of information and why it was collected.
We use reasonable administrative and technical measures designed to protect information. No online system, transmission method, or storage service can be guaranteed completely secure.
Your choices
You may ask us to correct or remove a listing or to review, correct, or delete personal information associated with a submission, subject to records we may need to retain for security, legal, or operational reasons.
To make a request, use the Community Volunteer Services contact page and describe the listing or information involved. We may need to verify that you are authorized to act for the organization.
Children’s privacy
Community Volunteer Services is a directory for the general public and is not designed to collect personal information directly from children under 13. Organizations offering youth opportunities are responsible for their own enrollment, parental consent, screening, supervision, photography, and privacy practices.
If you believe a child has provided personal information to Community Volunteer Services, contact us so we can review and address it.
Changes and contact
We may revise this policy as Community Volunteer Services changes. The date at the top shows when it was last updated. Material changes will be reflected on this page.
