Using Community Volunteer Services
These Terms of Use apply when you visit Community Volunteer Services, browse the directory, follow an external opportunity link, or submit content. By using the site, you agree to these terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use or submit information to the site.
You must be at least 18 years old to submit an opportunity. If you submit on behalf of an organization, you represent that you are authorized to do so.
Our role as a directory
Community Volunteer Services is an informational directory connecting people with organizations and community opportunities. Unless a page expressly says otherwise, Community Volunteer Services does not operate the listed organizations or opportunities and is not an employer, volunteer placement agency, partner, sponsor, broker, or representative of them.
A listing, link, “official source” label, or approval for publication does not mean that Community Volunteer Services endorses, certifies, licenses, insures, or guarantees an organization or opportunity. Availability and requirements can change, so confirm current details directly with the organization.
Submitting content
You are responsible for content you submit. You represent that it is accurate, current, lawful, relevant to legitimate volunteer service, and that you have the rights and permissions needed to provide it.
Do not submit content that is misleading, discriminatory, exploitative, defamatory, unsafe, unlawful, malicious, or invasive of another person’s privacy. Do not include sensitive personal information, confidential information, or images and text you do not have permission to use.
You keep ownership of your content. You grant Community Volunteer Services a nonexclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, copy, format, edit for clarity or consistency, display, distribute, and promote that content for purposes of operating and publicizing the directory. You may ask us to remove your listing.
Review and removal
Community submissions are reviewed before publication, but review is not an investigation, background check, legal review, safety inspection, or guarantee. We may verify information, request changes, decline a submission, edit formatting, unpublish a listing, or restrict use of the site at our discretion.
We do not guarantee publication, placement, search ranking, response volume, volunteer participation, or uninterrupted availability of any listing or site feature.
Safety and due diligence
Organizations are responsible for their programs, staff, volunteers, facilities, insurance, screening, training, supervision, accommodations, and compliance with applicable laws. This includes appropriate safeguards when roles involve minors, older adults, health settings, transportation, animals, food service, tools, private homes, or other elevated risks.
Volunteers and their parents or guardians are responsible for evaluating whether an organization and role are appropriate. Ask the organization about duties, supervision, accessibility, background checks, costs, transportation, insurance, age restrictions, and safety procedures before committing or sharing additional personal information.
Use good judgment: if a request for money, personal data, access credentials, or off-platform communication seems suspicious, stop and verify the organization independently.
Acceptable use
You may use Community Volunteer Services only for lawful purposes. You may not:
- impersonate another person or organization or misrepresent an affiliation;
- post scams, commercial spam, paid employment disguised as volunteering, or illegal activity;
- scrape, harvest, or misuse contact information or directory content;
- probe, disrupt, overload, bypass, or interfere with the site or its security controls;
- introduce malicious code or use automated systems in a way that burdens the service; or
- use the directory to harass, discriminate against, exploit, or harm another person.
External services
Listings may link to organization websites, application forms, maps, social platforms, or other third-party services. Those services are controlled by others and have their own terms, privacy practices, accessibility, content, and security. Community Volunteer Services is not responsible for third-party services or transactions.
Disclaimers and liability
Community Volunteer Services and its content are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. To the extent permitted by law, we disclaim warranties of accuracy, availability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and suitability of any organization, volunteer, or opportunity.
To the extent permitted by law, Community Volunteer Services will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for losses arising from reliance on a listing, interaction with an organization or volunteer, third-party conduct, external services, or inability to use the site. Nothing in these terms excludes rights or liabilities that cannot legally be excluded.
These terms are governed by applicable federal law and the laws of the State of Ohio, without limiting any consumer protection that must apply under another jurisdiction’s law.
Changes and contact
We may update these terms as the service changes. The date at the top shows the latest revision. Continued use after an update means the revised terms apply to future use.
